Knoxing – App Development, SEO, iPhones & Stuff

After a website becomes successful, after the SEO is on to newer projects, it happens.

A phone rings on the hip of the SEO responsible for that beautiful 1st page search result of last month. “What happened? Why did it fall?”
Here it is: short list. Read the rest of this entry »

Throwing SEO Bones Over Cliff

November - 21 - 2006

I just have to say how satisfying it is to mislead a competitor’s seo or webmaster by throwing out misinformation on forums you know they use as a resource. Hey, maybe in 6 months we’ll be competitors again.

Hint: Using Front Page on your site places a generator tag in your source, and flags your skill level. (You may also want to change that robots revisit tag to 10 days)

I can understand the thought process. A company holds a meeting and it’s decided that they want/need a website. They shop around, gather bids and ultimately write a huge check to some firm or somebody for a state-of-the-art website with so many bells and whistles that it would make Cpt. Kirk envious. This company has just wasted thousands of dollars and many months. Fast-forward a year – no one is blowing the whistles and the bells are silent. Why? Read the rest of this entry »

Turkey in Turkey A Digital Tagger

November - 14 - 2006

So this morning about 8am I got hacked. I admit it. But just as I drive an extremely fast car, I also admit to getting some speeding tickets – it goes with the territory. Anyway – first thing I noticed this morning upon clicking to this site was that I ended up IN TURKEY.

WTF! Try again, yup – I’m in Turkey. A meta-refresh was injected into my sql and visitors to my lovely site in Denver were redirected to that earthquake ridden hacker infested half country named after what we eat. Ok, historically incorrect but I’m allowed to be pissed. Read the rest of this entry »

Leadership Made Simple was launched on Amazon today and has made #2 on the Movers and Shakers List! Correction – it’s now #1 as I check right now. Congratulations Ed!

The book was written by Ed Oakley (he says by his clients) and includes over 18 years of experience and 40 examples of how Ed’s “Framework For Leadership” has turned around businesses and provided plans for success for each of them. Read the rest of this entry »

What A Satisfying Shame

November - 6 - 2006

What a great day! A major competitor of a client of mine has panicked. Don’t get me wrong, I really respect this company, and they’ve been a worthy adversary for a time. They must have thought the same of my client because they have completely rewritten their website. Yes the site is beautiful. Yes the site is informative. YES, IT’S COMPLETELY FLASH DRIVEN. Everyone, you must understand that search engines need content to deliver to users. They DON’T CARE about you, your business or your pretty logo. Read the rest of this entry »

400 Year Reminder For SEO’s

November - 5 - 2006

Guy Fawkes was caught in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament with several dozen barrels of gunpowder on November 5, 1605 and was subsequently tried as a traitor with his co-conspirators for plotting against the government. The nursery rhyme “Remember, remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot” can be applied to seo. Tell Them It’s Google Probation

October - 26 - 2006

There always come the time you’re asked about the “sandbox” by your clients – the “time delay”, whatever you may call it, whatever they may think it is. While it’s possible to defeat this “filter” you need to be cautious and not promise success. Instead, I resort to a little metaphor I call “probation” and it usually gets the nodding heads we are looking for, and then on to business. Here’s the “probation” talk I have. “Green Hat” SEO

October - 26 - 2006

You’ve read it, you’ve heard it. The “ethical” seo’s say “we’re white hat” and that the evil ones are “black hat” – c’mon. I too, in my “office” mode and voice will spout it, yes I am a “white hat” seo. WHY would any real seo say they were evil? To most prospects, this works. No, I will never hurt a client site with risky techniques, but do you think anyone in this industry could find that line between good and evil without actually walking it? Without Sniffin’

October - 17 - 2006

I just disturbed myself. God I love her, but I’m a little confused. A long friend of mine has just gotten a new puppy, I guess all puppies are new. This puppy now has a MySpace profile. I understand there are many reasons to create numerous profiles, but I know it’s not for any reason I would consider myself. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Brand New’ Brand New To Me

October - 9 - 2006

I discovered a new band called brand new. I have no idea how new they are, but I’m not real hip. I still listen to music I liked in high school. My younger friends ask me if I would wear a bandana around my leg if I could get away with it. I never did that, and I don’t think I ever would if I weren’t bleeding out in some way.

Anyway, here’s the Brand New website. Sic Transit Gloria…Glory Fades is so far a pretty nice tune – I’ll probably add it to my nifty MySpace profile. I need to be hip on the worlds most important social network – if your profile slips so does your status. That can’t happen! I need to find some glitter – may be a long night.

Post One From Knox

September - 17 - 2006

I know the song, I knew a girl whose face could launch a thousand ships. Without the fanfare I gotta get it rolling somehow. My nickname is Knox. Some call me other things, other names… a clever person (or stalker) can easily figure it out but I write under under Knox to provide some safety and privacy.  It IS the internet.
