Denver SEO Knox – Reputation Management, SEO, iPhones & Stuff

Google IndentsThe coveted “double listing” or “indents” on a Google SERP is not an accident or just plain luck. Site architecture and link strategies working in concert is what will reward you with a double listing. More importantly it will generate more visits to your site – that means more money!

But why stop there? Niche Saturation is not only about getting to page one. Not just about being #1 and #2. Not even about being #1 – 6!

It’s about displacing your competition. It’s about creating the illusion of greater choice to searchers and funneling money to your pocket.

Holiday Escape Without Bruises

December - 6 - 2007

Yes, I’ve been a little busy. I’ve had a few “Where are you’s”, “Are you dead’s?” and such. No – I’m still kickin’ around but did have to take a bloggin’ break to finish some projects. I learned to NOT announce my breaks for that’s when I seem to get hacked…..

As well as finishing some custom WordPress themes I’ve enjoyed the company of some Colorado NSA members (what a GREAT bunch of people) and also attended a few Holiday – EXCUSE ME – I mean CHRISTMAS Parties – I am not that p.c. Read the rest of this entry »

Web 2.Oh-My-God

November - 13 - 2007

More and more as we work and play services and toys are netting together with web technologies that weren’t in existence at the turn of the millennium, under your nose and in plain sight. Just as we voluntarily accepted the carrying of GPS locators (cell-phones) we are also volunteering our personalities. Would you have done that 10 years ago if you saw the “big picture” then?

The value of knowledge – “content” is not intrinsic but lies in its use. Search engines are the intermediaries between knowledge (information) and the people. But most forget the middle man – the authors and contributors. Us – and what we build. Read the rest of this entry »

Heads Up, iPhone Users

November - 8 - 2007

iphone firmwareApple will be releasing a firmware update very soon to version 1.1.2.

If you have “jailbroken” your phone, don’t install the update for it will most likely “brick” your phone to a useless paperweight.

Jail breakers, be sure to check your firmware version before visiting the snap-app site for one missed click could trigger the auto-install of their highly cool package. (but not so cool if your phone isn’t matched. No link provided for your safety – google it to get there)

If you are updating BE SURE to restore your phone through iTunes before updating. Those with hacked phones better just wait and see what happens with this update.

Google PR Splashback

October - 25 - 2007

the right wayThe diagram to the right is to aid you guys who may later complain about splashback.

Here’s a quick ramble, not a rant. Another common sense issue. A while back I wrote about some sites getting “penalized” by Google after the discovery of some spammy techniques used to boost their search rankings.

I bring this up because of a recent devaluation of some websites by Google. PR, green pixels, the almighty little bar that some webmasters use as a gauge of the worth for their website have some people flustered tonight. Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve talked to many about video and websites, WordPress and how to put it all together.

Many people have discovered that embedding a YouTube video to their WordPress blog theme can break it up. True. Though fixing it in the code view of your article is one solution, there’s great little plugin that will do it all for you.

It’s as easy as can be, this plugin will inject a button in your toolbar. Click it and it’s just like adding a picture, the plugin does it all. Not just YouTube, but google video and more, even supports quicktime. this is a must for anyone on WordPress that wants quick and bug-free abilities where it comes to adding video. Denver SEO Shoots Straight

October - 4 - 2007

Going back to what I do, I’m an SEO here in Denver. I was asked today about my little tagline I use in email: “A Denver SEO That Shoots Straight” I used to have and here it is. It’s a play on words. In my former life I was an officer. Today, I’m an SEO. Neat huh? Shooting straight, that’s my way of saying I don’t sell snake oil or confuse you. I offer an honest service and explain my methods. Knoxin’ Back

September - 20 - 2007

I know, I’ve deviated from the type of articles this site is supposed to be about. But, rest assured there are several in the pipe that will show you how to write web copy, make more money with your site, some SEO jems and more. Honestly, I have a real job too and have been working on that.

I’ll be responding to (most of) the email I’ve received soon as well.

Thanks for sighing with me lately. One cardinal rule of blogging is to NEVER write a post saying “Sorry I’ve been away…” but I never color within the lines anyway.

Yes, some SEO jems, a big announcement with the direction of my company and some spoofs soon.

Muffin Top Distracted Me

September - 11 - 2007

I was going to write a post about Internet trends tonight. But Britney Spears, with her “comeback” on the MTV awards really hit me, one more time…. with her degrading body and silly moves at the MTV awards on September 9th. Yes, she’s getting fat, (not as fat as denver fat chicks) but she was SO off beat that I could no longer silently scream “yeah Britney” (while whoooooing) and pretending I’m in the front row. Ok, I admit it, I liked her for a while.

Oh, what’s muffin top? Just look above the hot pants and think of baking.

This is a great vid from Darren Rowse. He asks some great questions that I really had to think about.

After listening to Darren, I considered all of it. Hmm…. what do I get out of this blog? As ProBlogger is about “making money from blogging” this site is not that, I have many other sites doing that. This is a place where, yes, it serves myself. But, as Darren points out, that’s a bad thing. Not really – I am happy giving away some jems and sharing some wares that I’ve made.I’m not seeking comments (that’s obvious) but am satisfied when I see the logs, the number of downloads and more. This site serves a degree of mental stimulation as well. This site with others are great testing grounds, the logs are used to analyze some ideas as well as stir things up. Sharing this video is partly what satisfies me, and hopefully you.

Add Audio To Website Quickly

August - 22 - 2007

First – Give Hammer something to groove to:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Adding some audio to your website is easy – and free! Though there are some companies that charge you to add this type of feature to your site by calling in a testimonial over the phone, having them host the file (with an associated hosting cost), send you code blah blah blah.

You can do it all yourself quickly. Here’s a streamlined solution.

First, download this file. Unzip it and you will see a folder called “audio”, just drop it in the root directory of your site. This is the streamlined version of some other systems out there, but you just want simple audio, not a ton of other features only available on certain platforms – so rest assured everything you need is there.

The code you use to embed the audio is in a txt file within the download. If you already have an mp3 you want played, drop it in the audio file. If you need to make one, then make one – record it on your computer or call your voicemail (if your v-mail is accessible by internet you can grab it there) or use any song you can ethically present.

After you have your audio file in that folder on you site, you just add the code to your website contained in the text file in the download. Yes, you can customize the player, just see the txt file.

Top Dozen Knox Articles

August - 21 - 2007

Looking over my logs I’ve found the top dozen most popular articles I’ve posted (ratio of views/day) and have listed them below. Together they really do cover the purpose of this blog, so I guess I’m happy.

  • “Green Hat” SEO

    October - 26 - 2006

You’ve read it, you’ve heard it. The “ethical” seo’s say “we’re white hat” and that the evil ones are “black hat” – c’mon. I too, in my “office” mode and voice will spout it, yes I am a “white hat” seo. WHY would any real seo say they were evil? To [...]

  • When SEO’s Get Bored

    April - 12 - 2007

Many of “my kind” work at night. The reasons are many. I’m pretty lucky though for we have a couple 24 hour Starbucks in town.
Yes, I need to hit the highway to get there, and that’s fun when I grab the right keys. Tonight it was not fun.

  • Denver MLS for Real Estate

    December - 11 - 2008

I’ve written a few posts about the MLS and have found myself ranking for Denver MLS in search engines, about page two (never written about that one).  I’m simply writing this little post to see how competitive the result is in the Denver area.
Real estate is typically pretty competitive, and the top results are a [...]

  • Please Say Goodbye To Corporate Hello’s

    December - 21 - 2006

The web is as necessary to business today as the telephone was a decade ago, yet so many businesses use it as nothing more than a digital business card.
Ok, your expensive “corporate hello” may be great – if it were still 1998.

  • New Office Attitudes for 2007

    January - 3 - 2007

I’ve been told I’m a little sarcastic in my articles – that’s not sarcasm, but confidence. Ok, sarcasm too. So, to keep things light I’m ordering some new office posters.
We’ve all seen those things – the rowboats visually presenting a “teamwork” metaphor and other silly things to “motivate” the 8-5 corporate soldiers.

  • Cat Seda’s New Book Pays For Itself

    April - 28 - 2007

  • Denver SEO & Reputation Management

    December - 20 - 2007

Wow, I really do go a while without writing about SEO. So while I mostly throw out tips and toys I need to remind myself (you?) that I run a Reputation Management network from Denver and I’m pretty much the only real SEO in Denver.
Though there are some others with “SEO packages” they really [...]

  • 2920292 carmel & MIBOR and NAR

    May - 8 - 2009

These Real Estate Associations never stop trying to control the livelihoods of paying members!
Ok, I personally have not been educated enough to understand what MIBOR and NAR is, or what the heck 2920292 carmel is yet.
I’m glad Carolyn, a Sacramento real estate professional, will guest post here and give me some learnin’ while providing an [...]

  • The “Knox got home way too late to post anything uber cool” Post

    November - 9 - 2008

Well, it is uber cool.  Maybe you got a head cold.  Maybe you just didn’t feel like talking much – I dunno.  I’m going to sleep on trying to figure out what the dolls in this video represented…:)

  • SEO, Music, Driving – umm, yeah.

    March - 27 - 2009

The video is lame and shaky, but it doesn’t really matter – it’s visual filler.
I’ve taken this month “off” from work, yes – spent it with family and close friends.
During this local vacation I took advantage of the light winter.  Before the recent storm hit I drove up to Conifer with my friend and colleague [...]
