Knoxing – App Development, SEO, iPhones & Stuff

Archive for the ‘Apple & iPhone’ Category

First of all, the iPad is NOT just a big iPhone as droid fans and those who don’t have an iPad may say. This device, with a few apps and familiarity with the iPhone interface is closer to a laptop (for me) than it is any smartphone. To evaluate it and see if it’s a viable option for people like me to use I made decision to not touch a laptop for a couple weeks, forcing me to use an iPad. Well I’m not a typical user, I don’t just use the Internet, check email, type docs and tweak spreadsheets (though all of this is easily done on the iPad). I’m a coder, a webmaster and I like to tinker, break things, fix things and play. I need to troubleshoot email issues, amend websites, post, create images, videos and more and I need to do it quickly and fairly often. It’s clear, the iPad CAN replace a laptop in most cases. It has for me. In fact, I made this entire post on the iPad.

These are my staple apps that allow me to use the iPad on a daily “work” basis. Click the thumbnails to see a bigger

Obama Countdown on iPhone

On February - 23 - 2010

Most of my “regulars” here have a sense of my politics, so you won’t be surprised to see I’ve built a little WebApp for iPhones counting down to the exact time Barack Obama leaves the white house.

Each time it’s loaded you’ll also get a comic, picture or joke taken from the web.

Add it to your home screen and it functions just as normal iTunes downloaded app would act. Just surf to THIS LINK on your iPhone and hit the ‘+’ at the bottom of the browser.

Send it to your iPhone friends (there are a lot of people who would like it, sorry to those of you who wish differently) or yourself and you too can watch for the “Change” our country needs in 2012.

Douglas County Sheriff on iPhone

On February - 5 - 2010

I made a simple iPhone site for myself and some friends have found it useful so I’m sharing the link now.

Basically, it’s just a quick way to access information about the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The live dispatch is actually a combined feed from the Douglas County Sheriff, Lone Tree PD, Parker PD and Castle Rock PD. The other resources just lists various departments to find out bail amounts, if your friend is in jail, what lawyers will work best for you Read the rest of this entry »

I admit I’m a fan of the iPhone.  But, unlike those that camp out for days to be one of the first to acquire a new Apple toy (like these guys a week ahead of the release), I am waiting a week or so.

Yeah, my phone has been dropped and kicked a few times – even fell in a toilet, so i do need a new one.

But I’ve thought about the upgrade Read the rest of this entry »

denver cams iphoneI was asked recently by a company if it were possible to build a simple web app to display the images from their web cameras to an iPhone web app so the employer could watch his property while away via his iPhone.

It really is simple, I built a quick web app using the Knox iPhone template to illustrate this. Read the rest of this entry »

iphone 2.0 detectionThanks to a user of the iPhone template, a glitch in the newest safari that throws some bugs into the detection script.

First off – credit to who deserves it. Chris Bailey started BoatingBay.com in 2006 and was also the first boat classifieds on the iPhone – the mobile version is pretty nice. Check out used boat classifieds to search for boats. Be sure to check it out on the iPhone to see how he’s worked it out.

Anyway, the Read the rest of this entry »

I get a lot of requests for iPhone web apps and apps for download through iTunes. I’m saying no to them almost daily. (no offense to those asking – I’m actually a busy guy)

COMPANIES WANT THEIR SITES PORTED!

iPhone developers – send me your contact info and I’ll send the leads out to you that I turn down. Also join my MySpace page that I just tonight made to keep the iPhone template users updated.

It’s time. It needs to happen. This site is a mess, unfocused and confusing – I know. It was fun, allowed me to play and explore without hurting clients. I never expected some of what has happened and have for a time been reluctant to change things. The size of this blog, all the sub-wordpress installations and toys has made it a bear of a task to change.

But, I am. Over the next month this site is splitting up into a few new domains. Yes – My blog will survive. Read the rest of this entry »

On March - 28 - 2008

Build Entire iPhone Web Apps from WordPress.

MANY know how to use WordPress. NOT MANY know how to code a web app for the iPhone. But now you can! It’s easy, it’s new and it’s super cool!

This is intended for native iPhone Web app output, not for blogging. WordPress is the medium for publishing for those unable to write an iPhone app by code. It is NOT intended to make your blog look like an iPhone.

I have a few requests that should have been included in the iPhone app template so here it is. How to add “content” to the home page before or within the menu.

Here are some methods using the Greatest Real Estate Agent in the World app for an example.

“Doug” bought me a few beers so I thought I’d help add this. Now, EVERYONE LEARN FROM DOUG’S EXAMPLE

Over $100,000 Worth of iPhones Saved

On February - 14 - 2008

It was actually my first app for iPhone but didn’t submit it to Apple. So I did now and they took it.

Thanks to all of you who have sought out the wares and used them and left some great comments and sent nice thanks. From all the “Thank yous” this lone app has rescued over well over $100,000 worth of iPhones – I know there’s more that said nothing. It’s a great feeling. Come back if your LCD acts up again and use it – it’s free.

No, it won’t get much more exposure now even though it’s on Apple.com for it’s king in search for anyone with the affected problem, but it’s nice to see it. Check out the stuck pixel fix for iPhone.

If you want to make your OWN APP for iPhone check out the template I’ve built that gives you everything needed.

  • Denver Notice – MySpace Amber Alerts

    October - 20 - 2008

I had no idea that MySpace presents Amber Alerts.  I logged into my Denver Profile this morning and it showed me this.  It gives a good amount of info.  Though MySpace is gimmicky and abused, this is a nice service. Regardless, take in the Alert.

  • Paperless Offices Invite Intrusion

Your personal email – think about the amount of information it can reveal about you, your co-workers, your company, your family, from party plans to shopping receipts to office gossip. • Don’t Marry Blogger – SEO Warning

    December - 12 - 2006

It happens with some relationships. Sometimes the needs of one are no longer met by the other. Perhaps something new catches the eye of the bored. Sometimes deciding to drop ol’ faithful and go with what’s popular is the reason. Though there are some great things about Blogger, the “cons” lists, in my eyes, are [...]
