Always Blame the Web Guy

April - 22 - 2009 Share

Rant: I received a BUNCH of email over night. I was a little confused because there wasn’t any content in the BODY of any of them.  This person was pretty irritated too – hinted by the PARAGRAPHS of text put in the SUBJECT line of each msg.

YES – Their email was getting bounced back to the senders trying get hold of this person and I was getting blamed.  No, my hosting service isn’t “broken”.

I checked their account and they have a GIG of mail sitting on the server.  My fault???  NO.  People, if you don’t know how to work an email client or even type in the correct fields DO NOT scream at me for your problems.

Like a REAL mailbox, EMPTY it once in a while or it fills up.  Yes, I’ll host you but you don’t pay me to take your heat.  If you need training, get a Dummies book.  Ok- I said it was a rant.

WHAT!?! What is this crap about… I thought for sure you were a cyber baby sitting service! You mean you don’t hold hands, tie shoes, and teach people how to share their toys?

I love it! I feel the same too! Sometimes you have to fire your customers! If I can eliminate 90% of the phone calls that reach my desk, I would be able to focus on actually getting work done. But hey, if they want to pay me an hourly rate to login to their system remotely and show them how to do it, I will do that too!

Sounds like someone needs an interweb lesson. Remember, there are no stupid questions just stupid, stupid, people.

  • Retaining Readers By Adding Content

    January - 2 - 2008

2007 is over. I’ve added the 4th Quarter ‘Bragstat’ below, with markers of when I posted here. The purpose though isn’t to say “look at my #’s” but to remind everyone that posting new content brings past readers back to your blog. Bottom line is that if your site goes stale, so will your numbers. [...]

  • Apple Does It Again With iPhone!

    January - 9 - 2007

Apple always amazes us, they have stated that they aren’t computer or software manufactures, but innovators. Apple announced the long rumored iPhone today – and it blows away the dreams of mac fans. The iPhone is revolutionary. Integrated is a widescreen lcd with over 160 pixel/inch (that’s likely twice the resolution of your monitor) and [...]

  • Another Babe Clone

    January - 5 - 2007

I wrote a silly article in November about using template pics for a website, and how they can hurt you when it comes to trust on the internet. Well, I found her again, not my favorite customer service babe, but she’s getting very popular. This one is from a real estate service – this chick [...]

  • Google PR Splashback

    October - 25 - 2007

The diagram to the right is to aid you guys who may later complain about splashback. Here’s a quick ramble, not a rant. Another common sense issue. A while back I wrote about some sites getting “penalized” by Google after the discovery of some spammy techniques used to boost their search rankings. I bring this [...]

With so many people using the Internet today from shopping to banking, research to just killing time at their hourly 8-5 cubicle job in that big glass building you G.E.D. types have, we are all inundated with new website designs and layouts. Just as the term “banner blindness” was coined because web page elements that [...]

    September - 28 - 2008

iPhone SEO will make you money and also strengthen your non-iPhone website targets. Why SEO an iPhone ported site? Several reasons.  An additional site will displace your competition in organic search results. They can make you money.  They’re unique and offer greater capability to your customers.  Most importantly,  THEY GARNER HONEST LINKS! An SEO’d iPhone [...]

Thanks to a Starbuck buddy for holding my 5 minutes of effort for a great pic. Telling the truth is a powerful thing. (also an ultimate defense to frivolous claims)

Another update about this site getting split up a little. Ok – it’s Web Design, SEO, iPhones and my rants.  I’m getting there. Eventually, all things “EBA” will be “Knox”.  [...]
