Fixing iPhone Stuck Pixels

August - 5 - 2007

You love your iPhone, but like me, you may have began to see some stuck pixels. Stuck pixels are not dead pixels – they’re stuck on a color and don’t refresh with screen redraws.

“Solutions” abound on the web to try to fix the stuck pixels on your iPhone but they are silly and uses an animated .gif to cycle through the various colors.

Though these work for standard LCD displays on actual computers, they don’t on the iPhone because the processor speed doesn’t allow the .gif to animate quickly enough to affect the display.

Frustrated with my one stuck pixel I made a file viewable on the iPhone that uses javascript to cycle the colors by actual hex color at a frequency needed to help out you iPhone users with this frustrating blemish.

iPhone users, click here to enter. Let it roll for a little while (expect some heat) and don’t worry about the display brightness dimmin’ over time, I made it refresh before the phone’s auto-brightness takes over. The repair window is sized for the iPhone. If the menu is in the way, just rotate it.

Though there is no guarantee this will work in YOUR case, it has mine and one colleague. If you find other solutions please let me know and I’ll get it exposed for the rest of us. ‘Til then, I hope this helps you.

Update – August 5, 2008 – I just created a MySpace profile to keep people updated about the Pixel Fix, any improvement ETC. Befriend me and I’ll post bulletins to inform you.

If you have found this useful, could you consider buying me a cup of coffee?

    OMG
I applied a screen protector and after running a small card around to get the bubbles out I noticed I had a blue dot. I haven’t been that pissed in a while. So a quick google search led me to everythingicafe.com where someone had the same problem and someone else suggested your website. I was skeptical at first because it seemed so weird to me. After running it on my iphone for a good 20 minutes I applied pressure and it worked like a charm. I couldnt be any happier. I REALLY appreciate you hosting this application along with the detailed instructions. I definitely will be recommending all my friends to check out your site. THANK YOU!

  3. Knox says:

    @kong
You just click to the link on your iPhone. Don’t download anything, it’s just a simple HTML webapp.

Had a stuck bright green pixel right under the time on my 3G iPhone. Thought it was dead and asked a few others at work if apply had a policy for them. Did a search on google and found your app. Let it run 10 minutes and rubbed it, no luck. Let it run 30 more minutes while reading the comments and rubbed the spot a little harder. My face looked like  after I saw the little green dot disappear. Thanks Knox!

    Kelly from Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Today my iPhone got a green dot in the top middle of the screen.

I found this site and I was a little skeptical at first… I allowed the screen to flash for around 15 mins with no luck. I then tried to ‘rub’ the dead pixel with no luck… I guess I was a little frustrated – so I used my thumb and squeezed the screen pretty hard right where the dead pixel was.

The little green dot is now gone.

    Thanks a MILLION!!

    Kelly

You rule! I thought I had a dead pixel until I decided to look it up on Google and searched “dead pixel on iphone” and “red pixel on iphone” then found this website to fix it! Ran it for about 3 minutes then tapped the red stuck pixel and voila! It’s back to perfect! Thank you very much. I remember seeing this when the first iPhone came out and didn’t think much of it but now I understand…GENIUS! Must have saved so many people by now!!! ;-) Thank you!

Just wanted to let everybody know that this program really does work! Spotted a small green dot on my iphone screen today, it drove me absolutely bananas even though it was so small. Found this program, ran it for about 30 minutes, rubbed around the dot, and it disappeared! Don’t be afraid to apply some pressure. It didn’t disappear until I rubbed a bit harder, enough to see discoloration.

Yes, Knox, I’m buying you a drink. Thanks for the program! You are a life saver.

  28. CV says:

  35. mr.magu says:

Oh my god. It did work.
    Thank you very much

  36. yatesl says:

A good few years after creation, this is still doing it’s job. I got two blue pixels appearing on my screen. An hour of this running, it unfortunately didn’t work, even with some pressing.

However, turning it on and off a couple of times, whilst holding the pixels down, and running this whilst doing the same, and it looks like they’re gone for good.

    Many thanks.

  37. bbrian017 says:

Thanks I did it for about 5 seconds and it worked perfect!

  38. Zappa says:

Had about 25 pixels frozen red and grey, it took a full hour to get them all but it worked. Great little app.

  39. scatman10 says:

Also for those with large clusters of stuck pixels (normally gray) this app seems to be working well. It has def. minimized the size of mine slowly but surely. I’ve been running the app for an hour now and it has minimized the size of the gray areas on the top of my screen…..normally not reachable by the app but I turned my iphone landscape and thats doing the trick.

  40. Aviv says:

    Dude!!!
    ilove you!!
    it totally worked!!
    i thought i had a dead one

i ran it about a 10 min’ and than put some pressure next to pixel
and i had allso a green one and he disappeared i dont think that the green ones are dead….

  41. Muyi says:

I just wanted to say I have also benefited from your approach on how to release a stuck pixel. Many thanks also from this end

  42. ryan says:

Thanks! this worked like a charm, I had a green stuck pixel, on my iphone, letting it run for about five mins with some thumb rubbing cleared it up!

  43. Sau says:

    Thanks, worked like a charm!!!
