Web 2.0 In Plain English

On November - 26 - 2006

You’ve heard it, you wonder what it is, yet you don’t ask. (I understand, you would sound silly)

Web 2.0 is a new animal, a new kind of web build – a new experience. Wikipedia defines Web 2.0 as a “second generation of services available over the World Wide Web that lets people collaborate and share information in a new way.” Read the rest of this entry »

Throwing SEO Bones Over Cliff

On November - 21 - 2006

I just have to say how satisfying it is to mislead a competitor’s seo or webmaster by throwing out misinformation on forums you know they use as a resource. Hey, maybe in 6 months we’ll be competitors again.

Hint: Using Front Page on your site places a generator tag in your source, and flags your skill level. (You may also want to change that robots revisit tag to 10 days)

I can understand the thought process. A company holds a meeting and it’s decided that they want/need a website. They shop around, gather bids and ultimately write a huge check to some firm or somebody for a state-of-the-art website with so many bells and whistles that it would make Cpt. Kirk envious. This company has just wasted thousands of dollars and many months. Fast-forward a year – no one is blowing the whistles and the bells are silent. Why? Read the rest of this entry »

Turkey in Turkey A Digital Tagger

On November - 14 - 2006

So this morning about 8am I got hacked. I admit it. But just as I drive an extremely fast car, I also admit to getting some speeding tickets – it goes with the territory. Anyway – first thing I noticed this morning upon clicking to this site was that I ended up IN TURKEY.

WTF! Try again, yup – I’m in Turkey. A meta-refresh was injected into my sql and visitors to my lovely site in Denver were redirected to that earthquake ridden hacker infested half country named after what we eat. Ok, historically incorrect but I’m allowed to be pissed. Read the rest of this entry »

Leadership Made Simple was launched on Amazon today and has made #2 on the Movers and Shakers List! Correction – it’s now #1 as I check right now. Congratulations Ed!

What A Satisfying Shame

On November - 6 - 2006

What a great day! A major competitor of a client of mine has panicked. Don’t get me wrong, I really respect this company, and they’ve been a worthy adversary for a time. They must have thought the same of my client because they have completely rewritten their website. Yes the site is beautiful. Yes the site is informative. YES, IT’S COMPLETELY FLASH DRIVEN. Everyone, you must understand that search engines need content to deliver to users. They DON’T CARE about you, your business or your pretty logo. Read the rest of this entry »

400 Year Reminder For SEO’s

On November - 5 - 2006

Guy Fawkes was caught in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament with several dozen barrels of gunpowder on November 5, 1605 and was subsequently tried as a traitor with his co-conspirators for plotting against the government. The nursery rhyme “Remember, remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot” can be applied to seo. • iPhone Color Picker Web App

    January - 22 - 2008

    I couldn’t resist.
You all know I develop for the iPhone as well as my “real job” – so here’s the predictable follow-up article for the color picker post below.
    Apple accepted it – nice.
After presenting the color picker tool, I ported it to the iPhone. I thought it would be handy for client meetings, [...]

  • Free iPhone Ringtones – No Hacking

    December - 17 - 2007

It’s easy, it’s legal and it’s safe. STOP paying Apple to make custom ringtones for your iPhone! If you think iTunes is the only way beside trying to hack your half-grand toy then think again. iTunes makes you PAY, hacking can “brick” it – but a quiet release of Garage Band will do [...]

  • Knox Favorite 2007 Web Flicks

    January - 8 - 2008

Ok, my plate is pretty full so this isn’t a grand post. Below is a snapshot of my current desktop – you see I’m pretty busy.

Even with Mac OSX’s great filing system you can still easily fill your desk (and month) with work. Instead of meat, I’ll give a splash of entertainment tonight.

  • Knox Site Change – Part 1

    September - 1 - 2008

I’ve told you all that this site is getting restructured.  Today, the home page actually goes to my SEO page.  WOW – what a concept for an SEO site… i know (groan).
Edit – This is actually going to fluctuate a while due to some back-end issues.
On the top menu you will see a link to [...]

  • Don’t Marry Blogger – SEO Warning

    December - 12 - 2006

It happens with some relationships. Sometimes the needs of one are no longer met by the other. Perhaps something new catches the eye of the bored. Sometimes deciding to drop ol’ faithful and go with what’s popular is the reason.
Though there are some great things about Blogger, the “cons” lists, in my [...]

  • New SEO Website Launches Into Space

    December - 2 - 2008

The site that we don’t talk about was kicked off early on Monday and wow – I got a bit overwhelmed.

  • America is Truly Awesome

    September - 11 - 2008

September 11.  Instead of showing what you will see everywhere else – a reminder of the attacks in video form (though some want to believe this was an “inside job”), I’m posting an article I saved from about a year ago.  Greg Walker is (was) a Rutgers College sophomore and full credit for this goes [...]

  • “Green Hat” SEO

    October - 26 - 2006

You’ve read it, you’ve heard it. The “ethical” seo’s say “we’re white hat” and that the evil ones are “black hat” – c’mon. I too, in my “office” mode and voice will spout it, yes I am a “white hat” seo. WHY would any real seo say they were evil? To [...]

    July - 8 - 2007

I’m tired of fish, plants and pretty landscapes. Are you? You may have managed to neuter yourself and get an iPhone. I mentioned before in iPhone with testosterone where to get a great iPhone sleeve that isn’t clear or pink, that’s a start.
As far as the wallpaper that comes with [...]
